Find attached a default smartdmd.txt file. You have to choose SMARTDMD as palette. After that you can edit the graphics and
choose a palette in the editor. You can change the colors of a palette with CTRL- klick.
You find further instructions in the pinside article. You may need a registered version of pinball browser
or a older version like 4.44 which got posted here earlier.

Hi Lucky,

I have try with the last Pinball Browser ( 550 and no license ) and all is ok !

Just colored the ROM, save it and rename it.

Perfect, it's so easy now :D

Now, I have to take time for colored all the ROM ...

Personally, it's more easy to colored the ROM with Pinball Browser than PIN2DMD Editor ;) ( but it's also in Beta ).

Of course it is easier to color the ROM but unfortunately it is not possible that way with ROM which only

use 2bit color depth like all the older machines. Please share your experience and results here. If you use

the older version of pinball browser you can even share the macro created.

Have fun !

I have just colorized 3/4 pictures for test.

it's a long time for all colorized.

I use the last version ( 550 ) with no license and all work fine ! I will try to share the macro for your test ;)

Which ROM are you working on ? Please share your experience here

Here is the file needed to patch the original Stern ROM of Metallica to the colored version

provided by PinballMike. To create the needed ROM file you can either use pinball browser (.pbm) or
bspatch (http://www.daemonology.net/bsdiff/)

Use the latest pin2dmd.exe tool to upload the palette .dat file with /b option.
(e.g. pin2dmd.exe /b mtl_164.dat) and the latest firmware version to use the ROM.
You also need a pinmame version supporting the patched ROM.

Is 0xF4CE688B the correct checksum using bsdiff to patch the rom? With shrek I was able to simply ignore CRC errors and use the standard rom name, but acdc crashes pinmame with this rom.

I added the Metallica files to my post above.

Since pinball browser modifies the filesize of the roms they have to be added to the romlist with the new filesize.

The reason is that pinmame only loads the number of bytes given in the filesize field of the ROMLoad line and not the actual size of the file.

However since pinball browser always extends the size to the same size for each rom there only is a need for one entry now matter

how you colorize the file. So every different colorization for the game can be used with the same pinmame entry by checking ignore crc.

New PinMame release is coming soon.

hi guys, just found out about pin2dmd. looks pretty cool.

i have an LCD monitor for my DMD.

is it possible to use this, or do i have to use a real DMD?

ok, i get it. thats what i was afraid of.

i just dont have the time to redo my cab with a real DMD.

as of now i am able to add color to my monitor type dmd by right clicking and changing up to 4 colors, but thats just not enough colors to do it right.

i assume that there are more than 4 colors possible with pin2DMD.correct?

Lucky, is there a way that you can make pin2DMD work with a monitor as a dmd display?  thanks/sparky

Pin2dmd is made to work with RGB LED panels. There will be no modification from me to make it work with

a standard monitor. Sorry

Hi lucky, thanks forthe response.

What makes it only work with a RGB panel, and not a monitor that is capable of producing all colors?

In other words, what tells the RGB panel what colors to use, but wouldnt be able to tell a monitor the same?

Maybe i could modify it myself. Thanks. Sparky
