Sam Install

First off just want to say I just found this site and I'm super excited.  I've downloaded and played dozens of VPinball pins from the "other site", but love that the newer Stern games are being recreated and offered here.  However, I can't get the darned things to work.

- I've downloaded Pirates of the Caribbean, and placed the table with my other tables in my "tables" folder.

- I went to the Stern Game code center and downloaded the POTC ROM, then I went into the script and renamed the game name to: Controller.GameName="potc_600as".

- Then I changed the B2S referance in the script to:  Set Controller=CreateObject("VPinMAME.Controller")

- And finally I downloaded the VPinMAME_SAM_UNITY_PINDMD_UNIFIED_1.9.RAR and extracted PinMAME.dll to my VisualPinball/VPinMAME directory and installed it using setup.

But when I go to run the POTC table I get the following errors:

Unable to ope SAM.vbs.  Ensure that it is in the same folder as this table.   *I click OK and I get*

Can't Load VPinMAME.  Variable is undefined.  *I click OK and I get*

VPinMAME ver 01500000 required. *I click OK and I get*

sam.vbs ver 3.1 or higher required.  *I click OK and I get*

Line: 200 Variable is undefined: "SolCallBack" *I click OK and I get*
Line: 61 Variable is undefied: "Controller"

I am guessing my issue is that I don't have SAM.vbs, and perhaps the other erros are simply cascading from there.  But I can't figure out where to get SAM.vbs from.

Is there a set of build instructions for this?  Or if this is already answered (I don't think so, I've been digging around some) could someone point me to the post?

Thanks!

First of all, welcome to VPU!

Second of all, you can say VPForums here, we just might look at you funny for doing so

Third, you get the sam.vbs from the same download page you got the SAM VPinMAME.dll from, and extract the .rar to your Tables folder

Yuppers.  That did it.  Now since I am playing on my PC desktop.  I just need to remember where I read about rotating the playfield and I'll be in buisness.  Thanks!!!

Depending on the tables, there's some converted DT patches here for desktop users. Check them out - they use the VPU patch system and just patch the tables you've already downloaded.

I have the SAM.vbs installed as well as the latest vpinmame.  But on the SAM tables, I'm getting the "Game Not Found" error on Line 42.

the script error is simply pointing to the game name, and it tells you the game name is not found, which means the rom is not found. In this case, it's most likely that you don't have the SAM vpinmame installed. Did you get arngrims unified latest vpinmame.dll?

if you try and run a game and it isn't in the vpinmame list, you get the script error saying game name not found

if you try and run a game that is missing a rom, but in the vpinmame list, it tells you game rom not found in a popup window, and tells you what the contents of that rom should be

you're at the first part right now, so find the sam vpinmame on this site and install that, then you should be fine

to make sure you have installed the latest vpinmame, go to your vpinmame folder and click on setup.exe, go to test, scroll down to the rom you're trying to run and see if it's in the list. if it's not in the list, you don't have the latest vpinmame. if it is in the list, click test and let me know what happens

Thank you :)  I followed the instructions on getting the SAM vpinmame, and that really did the trick :)  Now I can add those tables from Stern to my visual pinball collection.  Right now I have over 175 tables at the moment.

hello  hope all is well , iam having the same issue and I have everything the way it should be can any one help me with this

You have to get the sam vpinmame, and put that into the folder where the exact vpinmame.dll is, and replace with the SAM vpinmame, then you might just be able to go from there.

I got the SAM to work after a week or two, it's been a week or so since I've been on.  Thanks :)

in the same folder than the vpm dll, don't think it is used already, i think it is for the functionality to replace the rom sounds by external hd sounds on the fly, it is still a wip and it will be awesome ;)
