    I haven't had a lot of time to work on this recently but I will work on it whenever I get a chance. It is taking a long time, and I'd like it to be finished so I can share it but there is still a lot to do.
  2. I figured I'd create this thread so that it is known that I am working on colourising The Getaway. I can't say that it's a fast process and I am trying to learn as I go. If I manage to finish this project (which at this stage I still think I will fight it out) I might look at a couple of other games that I really want. This one was chosen as I thought there were less scenes to colour and I could learn before attacking the ones I really want to see in colour.

    Doing it on a VPin means I can just use a USB, if my VPin was on my network it would be even easier.

    I can't see the YouTube video, it says video unavailable. I know much of it isn't working, you asked for a copy of it as is and I sent it but it is far from being ready. As you say, ball launch, free ride, 1st ball lock, kickback all work. Burn rubber should be at least the right palette colours but not with the "additional" colours for the most part. There are a couple I haven't captured as yet. For the Lambo & police car wipes I haven't yet completed the masking therefore they don't work yet. I am coming back to that as I need to learn a bit more about how it works. The tunnel shot is one that I haven't worked out what is going on with as yet. I don't know if I need to redo it. I did it as a colour mask but am wondering if replacing would be a better solution. I think Donut Heaven colours are correct when I test them on the VPin. The biggest problems with things not working as far as I know are setting key frames. If I understand it correctly, they need to be set to a unique frame and problems can occur if a "replace" method frame repeats. Other issues can be masking. In any case, I am still a long way from complete on my project and have been spending time with other (non pinball) projects as well. I do want to see this project completed though.

    I considered snow caps and wasn't sure about adding green for all of the scenes where the mountain is in the background but decided not to do it as I wasn't sure how good it would end up looking. I haven't really noticed the ghosting when running in the game, it is noticeable in the gifs obviously, but as you say, it would mean using the replace method to get rid of it... which if I don't work out why it doesn't work properly might be something else I try anyway.

    What do you mean by, " I went with blue police since original does"? I went with Black and White as that is what is on the backglass. What are you referring to when you say the original? The ColorDMD version or something else? I like your idea or using 504 however I think the scene needs to be done using a mask and therefore you won't be able to add the number.

    Here are some other scenes I have worked on. The Burn Rubber scene isn't finished however you can see what I am working on with it and the part that is unfinished shows the basic palette colours I've chosen. The Helicopter scene doesn't play correctly during game play yet.

    Hey there @MrTantrum after starting my colourisation I read through your thread on Pinside and all of the dramas and didn't know where you'd end up with it but I had already sunk hours into mine so figured I'd keep going (although I haven't had much time to do it since Christmas). I am planning on sharing it once completed. I am unsure of a way to merge or share our work to help each other complete it. I don't think it is possible, I was hoping that a version of the editor would be released that allowed this. I would love to be able to have some help colourising especially the Burn Rubber scenes as they are long. I am using a mask to do those (although I haven't completed the first one yet) but it is a slow, mind numbing process. If there is a way to share the workload, I am more than happy to go that way but I was of the understanding there is no way to bring two projects together. Your colourising looks good. You have chosen different colour to me on the police cars, I have been working more on Black and White whereas you have used blue. How have you done the cars driving from side to side as you don't have score details etc showing? Did you use the colour replace method or a masking? My guess is that you have used replace which I don't think will work in the real application but am happy to be proven wrong. I really have no idea how to get the video mode coloured as every time it is played it is different, so knowing how to capture it and colour it doesn't make sense to me.

    Can the Real Pin just be extracted in the same manner as the vpin and it work and can be passed around or it is somehow linked to a serial number on a Pin2DMD device?

    Given the hours I've already spent I'm keen on getting it finished. If I can't get it finished, I'll release it in a usable state. With the help I was given from Rappelbox and then some advice from Lucky1 I hope I am on the right track. It have given me a much better understanding of what needs to be done and things to try to make it easier. I am tinkering a little and trying things to see if the scenes will display correctly as I have a problem where scenes aren't behaving properly. I still have no idea how to colourise the video mode and I'm not sure how I am supposed to do the burn rubber scenes but that could be a long process. Thanks for the words of encouragement from you and Fly. I have been approached by someone who has a real Getaway machine who has asked for me to extract it for him. Is that as simple as extracting it for Real Pin or do I need to do something with the serial number of the device as I read somewhere else? I am considering setting up a Tips button as well. I don't plan on charging for the work, but if anyone want to gift me something for the hours I wouldn't be opposed to it

    Looking good. I think I am probably working with a similar understanding of all of this as you are with the one I'm working on. I'm understanding a bit more as my project moves on and hopefully I'll have a good understanding by the end of it. I was thinking that if I get an understanding of it all I might do a tutorial or guide of some sort but at this stage I still don't know enough to be confident that I'd get it right.

    Has anyone tested this one? I seem to have a few problems with it, for example: It is very hard to read (sometimes impossible) the screen when you make a choice with the flippers When entering a high score, the screen is just frozen so it's not possible to see what letter you are entering.

    Thanks... I think I am learning as I go so hopefully it works OK in the end. It's not been a fast project but I didn't expect it to be. Just spending time doing it when I can and sacrificing what would be pinball playing time.

    I've been trying to tackle the steep learning curve to do some colourisation... so far I haven't had much success. Reading through this entire thread, the guide and watching Stefan's YouTube videos seems to answer some questions for me but confuse me with others. I have a some questions that hopefully someone can quickly answer and I'll keep trying to move along with this. I have the latest version or Pin2DMD editor (I believe) but I don't have the "Apply" button that seems to be in everything I look at. Should it be there? Do I need to have the Pin2DMD connected to be able to export a project (I currently don't as I am not doing the editing on my cab)? I have coloured 3 scenes and I was hoping to export the project and test it to make sure what I am doing is correct but when I attempt to export the project I get a message that says "Please don't publish projects with copyrighted material / frames" but nothing exports. I have coloured the scenes that I have done using the "Replace" method which seems to be a slow way of doing it but it's the only way so far I have gotten it to colour how I want. That is probably due to me not knowing what I am doing but when I use other methods I don't seem to be able to get the colours I want or when I chose the colour and then click on a pixel in the image the colour does match what I have selected. I do have another question which doesn't change anything but am curious to know. Why to use the editor do you need to have a Pin2DMD license? Wouldn't it be better to not require licensing if it's hoped that more people in the community help the project along?

    I have a problem with seemingly all Stern ROMS with this version as all of the ones I can actually get to load flicker badly. I can't get this to load AC/DC at all though so I could have something wrong.

    Thanks for the advice. I'll keep trying. As for it being covered in multiple threads, I haven't found it, I have searched but I don't seem to be able to find much when I search on this forum... Not sure what I am doing wrong.

    Ok so this is confusing for me.... bspatch (This is the exe) SH0141e.bin (This is the original bin file) SH0141e_c.bin (This is the new bin file that I am creating) SH0141e_c.diff (What is this file? Where does it come from? How do I get it for tables that haven't been colourised yet?) My plan was to create some ROM's that use 16 shades so that the roms that have not yet been colourised still look ok rather than looking like parts are missing.
